Many of us dread the clean-up – whether it’s the house after a shutterstock_351604766Christmas party, a thorough spring cleaning of the office, or cleaning out your car. Your computer system is no different. While it’s important, there are many of us that overlook it until our systems are slowing down from a buildup of dust or overheating from faulty fan function.

Like everything else in life, computers collect dust and dirt, particularly if they are continually sitting in the same spot. Whether you’re working in an office or just using your system at home, cleaning your computer from time to time is well worth the effort!

Why Should You Clean Your Computer?

  1. Computers are equipped with a fan that kicks in when your system is getting too warm. The fan helps cool your system to prevent overheating. If dust is left to keep building up, it can eventually clog your fan. This makes the fan much less effective and puts your computer at risk of slower performance and overheating.
  2. We all know that germs are easily spread – coughing, sneezing, physical touch. When you’re using your computer, especially on a regular basis, chances are that you’ll sneeze or cough on or near it at some point! Cleaning your keyboard and even your screen regularly will help eliminate the possibility that you or anyone using your computer will pick up germs.
  3. Dust build up can make your system more of an allergy problem, making your workspace a frustration for your nose! Keep your system clean and the air clean by regularly dusting!
  4. If you eat near your computer or have other items on your desk, crumbs and other small particles can get stuck in your keyboard and mouse. While this seems straightforward, regularly cleaning your keyboard and mouse will prevent a buildup, helping to avoid jammed keys, ineffective mouse movement or scrolling, and so much more. Together, these factors can help improve overall efficiency of your computer and laptop.
  5. Having a clean computer will leave a good impression on customers and clients who make their way through your office. It appears unprofessional if your computer is visibility dirty and dusty.
