Like most things in this world, computers do not last forever; however, there are steps you can take to make sure you’ll be able to keep those items that are important to you – pictures, documents, files, etc. Imagine losing years of family pictures, office documents, or other collections of irreplaceable items!

Prioritize Storage

Think about what is most important to backup and prioritize accordingly. Personal information, personal momentos, and other important information like passwords, projects, etc. Having access to these items should your system fail is invaluable.

Regularly Backup

As you update files and add to your computer’s storage, be sure to continually backup your system. Make it a habit to sync your backup system with your computer once a week, or month. That way you can ensure you have the most up-to-date information.

Take Advantage of Different Methods

To make sure you have saved your data, you should take advantage of a number different storage means. There are a number of online programs, such as Dropbox and Google Drive to help you manage files you want saved. You should also consider:

  1. External Hard Drive: This involves moving the information from your computer to a completely separate location, disconnected from your system. This is a great way to help ensure the backup of your information; however, it is good to also store your information in an offsite location, in case that hard drive experiences a hard fall, breaks, or is somehow lost amongst the other items in your home!
  2. Cloud-Based Backup: This is a terrific option to protecting your files and storage! By saving your information to a separate server that can be connected to from anywhere, it offers you peace of mind that no matter what happens to your physical system, you could reconnect to the server with another device and still access the same files and information. You will be prepared for any unexpected system failures.
